The huge history of adidas starts with Adolf "Adi" Dassler in 1924, in Bavaria, a small town in Germany. After starting out in his mother's laundry room, Adolf was joined by his brother, Rudolf, and the two brothers founded the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik ("Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory"), with a vision to provide athletes with the best possible equipment. They began making sports shoes, and quickly gained attention for the quality and performance of their products, while their recognition sky-rocketted when Jesse Owens wore their shoes during the Berlin Olympics in 1936, while winning four gold medals.

After World War II, relations between the two brothers led to a split. Adi kept the original company, which rebranded as Adidas (a combination of "Adi" and "Das" from his surname), while Rudolf established a new firm with the name Ruda, which later was rebranded as Puma. This rivalry between Adidas and Puma became legendary.

During the 1950s, Adidas continued to grow rapidly, and the company's shoes were worn by some of the world's top athletes. The brand became known for its innovations, such as the screw-in studs and the iconic three-stripe logo, which still remains one of the most recognized symbols in sportswear. In 1954, the German national soccer team won the World Cup wearing Adidas shoes, which marks as one of the most significant milestones of the brand.

While Adidas continued to grow and expand, by the 1980s Adidas had become one of the leading sportswear brands in the world. The company signed major sponsorship deals with sports stars and teams, including the NBA and Olympic athletes, solidifying its position in global sports culture. 

In 2005, Adidas acquired Reebok in a move to expand its presence in the global sports market and increase its share in the North American market. During the 2010s, Adidas began focusing on sustainability, while also embracing the athleisure trend with fashion-forward designs and collaborations, such as those with Kanye West for the Yeezy line, and with Pharrell Williams. 

Today, Adidas remains one of the main leaders in sportswear, focusing on technology, innovation and sustainability.
