Nike was founded in 1964 by a track and field athlete and his coach under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. Phill Knight & Bill Bowerman, originally operated in Oregon, America as retailers, re-purposing shoes from shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger. The business began to grow rapidly and Bowerman quickly produced the brand's first shoe, which Knight wore in one of his games.

With the help of his wife, Bowerman began experimenting more and more with making sneakers, using materials such as rubber for improved traction and greater speed.
